Out of all of the data that is processed and stored by a web browser, our collection of bookmarks/favorites is probably the most important and significant. At some point in our computing careers, we are bound to come upon a scenario that will spark the desire to move our carefully cultivated collection of favorites from one browser to another. Whether we are taking a new application for a test spin, or transferring our user data to a new system, the following guides will help ensure that our browser favorites make the transition with us.
Microsoft Edge Export

  1. From within the Edge browser, click on the “Hub” shortcut icon.
  2. Once within the Hub’s menu, select “Settings.” This will page to a number of adjustable browser settings.
  3. Look for “Import Favorites and Other Info” and select the option to “Import from another Browser” (located directly below the heading).
  4. On the subsequent menu, locate and click the “Export to File” button.
  5. Select a destination and save the new bookmarks HTML file.

To Import:

Follow the above steps (1-3) to access the “Import from another Browser” menu. Once there, we can opt to let Edge pull the data from another browser itself or identify a specific bookmark HTML file for use via the “Import from File” option.

Google Chrome Export

  1. From within the Chrome browser, select the “Customize and Control Google Chrome” management menu (3 dots in a row, top right corner).Chrome bookmarks Howell MI
  2. Select “Bookmarks” from the list of available options.
  3. Select “Bookmark Manager” from the subsequent menu. This will open a new management window.
  4. Once inside the Bookmark Manager, we will want to access the “Organize” menu (again, 3 dots tacked, top right corner).
  5. From within the “Organize” drop-down menu, select “Export Bookmarks.”
  6. Select a destination and save the new bookmarks HTML file.

To Import:

From within Chrome, follow the above steps (1-2) to get within the “Bookmarks” sub-menu. From here we can select “Import bookmarks and settings.” This will open a separate dialogue window that will allow us to identify the browser we wish to copy our bookmarks (and other data, if we choose) from, or allow us to select a specific bookmarks HTML file for Chrome to load.

 

Mozilla Firefox Export

  1. From within the Firefox browser, select the “History, saved bookmarks, and more” menu button.Firefox bookmarks Howell MI
  2. Select “Bookmarks’ from the ensuing drop-down menu.
  3. From the subsequent Bookmarks menu, select “Show All Bookmarks.” This will open a Library management window. Firefix Bookmarks Howell MI
  4. Select “import and Backup” from within the library management window.
  5. Select “Export Bookmarks to HTML”
  6. Select a destination and save the new bookmarks HTML file.

To Import:

Follow the above steps (1-4) to get to the “Import and Backup” sub-menu. From here we can either select to import our bookmarks data from a specific HTML file or allow Firefox to copy data/information from a different browser by selecting the “Import Data from Another Browser” option.

 

Microsoft Internet Explorer Export

  1. From within the Internet Explorer browser, select the Bookmarks icon from the top menu bar (the star icon).  Internet explorer bookmarks Howell MI
  2. Click “Add to favorites” to access and additional options menu.
  3. From within the “Add to favorites” drop-down menu, select “Import and Export.” This will cause a separate dialog box to appear.
  4. In the subsequent “Import/Export Settings” wizard, select “Export to a file” and click “Next”.
  5. Select “Favorites” and click “Next.”
  6. Select the folder(s) you wish to export, then click “Next.”
  7. Select a destination and save the new bookmarks HTML file.

To Import:

Follow the above steps (1-3) to get to the “Import/Export Settings” wizard. From this dialog box, select “Import from a file and click “next.” On the subsequent screen, select “Favorites,” and click next to proceed to the file identification screen. After selecting the bookmarks HTML file we wish to use, click next and select the folders we wish to import. Alternatively, we can opt to “Import from another browser” on the initial settings screen and let internet Explorer pull the selected information for us.
